The decarbonisation of electricity networks with renewable energy sources, principally wind power and solar photovoltaic installations has created a huge opportunity for energy storage technologies.

There are a wide range of battery chemistries that can be adapted for these applications including lead, lithium-ion, sodium-based, zinc-based and flow batteries. Lead batteries are well placed to meet the demands of frequency regulation and electrification.
